Next is feather board. It keeps the wood against the fence. Springs made from wood are used. Magnets, expansion bars, clamps are used to held them in place. Hold down is also attached to fence with the help of magnets. Sub fence is also available. Miter gauge comes next. From front to back one or two grooves will be running in the table. These are called miter slots and they help in guiding the crosscut sled. Crosscut sled allows catching or holding the work piece at 90 degrees to blade. Tenon jig helps to vertically hold the work piece and the cuts may be done across the end. Tenons are formed here.
Back in 7th grade, it was a coat rack you started with. Nothing fancy, just made with some dowels and a shaped piece of wood to sink them into. After it was all glued, sanded and stained, it looked pretty good. After that it was a napkin holder that actually turned out good enough that your Mom put it out on the table at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and made sure to tell all the relatives who made it. (“Awww Mom!”)
Woodworking can be done as a hobby or even as a profession and there is lots of money to be made in woodworking, but like any profession it takes time to learn and you need a good woodworking plan. A Woodworking plan is having a set of instructions to follow before you start working on the raw wooden pieces that you have. It makes so much sense to know step by step what you are going to do with the wood as you can end up spending so much time, money and energy without a proper guided plan. The best thing about having a woodworking plan is that it gives you step by step instructions so that you can start at any age and it can be a mere pass time or something which gives you deep joy as there is so much creativity involved while building any art.
